Calling backup.

Did I mention that I am stacking coins right now so I can pay rent?

*Shakes fist at recession*

So, with our possible party-theme for tonight, sans me as I will be in an Austrian farewell. Hell, we will just say I am going to be in Austria. Wait, I am all with the fragmented sentences right now, and colloquial language...eugh.

Wait, I didn't even say what I intended to say.
We were debating about party themes and the one I think is the best is the Global Financial Crisis party.

I am my worst nightmare.

See???

SEE???

*Shakes fist at recession*

Okay, well, with my bullshit aside this is what I picked up from the market yesterday as filler for my existing ingredients so I can actually make meals. I usually wouldn't post this but I am especially proud of the fact that I bought this all with coins.

Funny that I returned with groceries, but feeling lighter.

So, in case you need it spelled out for you:

-1/2 dozen free range eggs
-1 punnet blueberries
-1 punnet cherry tomatoes
-3 white peaches
-2 blood plums, yeah, I ate one. Give me a break.
-2 zucchinis
-1 bag of carrots
-200g ricotta
-1/2 kilo of natural muesli with flaked almonds and other dried fruits

Desperation is sweet.

Being poor is okay in my books.

Funnily enough, this meal was calculated by my dining companion to have only cost four dollars to feed the both of us.

Ridicerous...yeah, I still get organic eggs, bitches.

Go team economic crisis and being casualties of the recession!

And funnily enough, the best thing I have eaten all week.

Steamed Chinese sausage, sliced up. Check out those little pools of saturated fat spilling on the chopping board.

Choi Sum stir fried in oyster sauce

The spread, banquet style. Soy and chili hidden on the side

Mine!

Poor Man Linner
Serves 2-3 people

Medium grain rice, washed
small handful of dried shittake mushrooms
2 tsp of dried shrimp
1 1/2 chinese sausages

3 eggs
1/2 bunch of garlic chives, roughly chopped
salt
white pepper

1/2 bunch of choi sum
oil
soy sauce
oyster sauce

chili and soy sauce to serve

Put the rice , mushrooms and shrimp into the rice cooker with the right amount of water. Place the Chinese sausage over the top, in the water to allow to steam while the rice cooks.
When the rice is ready, remoe the sausage, slice and set aside. Fluff the rice and allow to sit for 10 minutes while you cook off the rest of the meal.

Whip the eggs in a bowl till you break the yolks and add the chives. Stir till thorough and add salt and pepper to taste. Fry off in a heavy based pan or a wok on high heat till cooked, trying to keep it in a thickish slab, around 1/2-1cm thick.

Wash and dry the choi sum, sectioning it into edible lengths. Heat oil in a wok or heavy based pan over high heat and add the vegetables with a dash of soy. Cover with the lid for 30-60 seconds and allow to steam till it has cooked. Add the oyster sauce to taste, turn off the heat and stir.

Serve with the dishes separated and allow people to help themselves to what/how much they want on top of their rice. Dig out that hidden beer.

We're moving on out.

So, it's true. Everyone is moving on and away and people are finally past the rush of the holidays, the season of happy, the illusion of calm. As these guys were packing up the tree in the city square ('bout fucking time, it's been up since October) there was also a ute filled with red balls and my phone started ringing.
It is my first week off work in two and a half years, officially, and I get told that because of the recession, all the temps in the building are being let go. No, I believe they said that no temp contracts were being renewed in our sector.

Awesome.

Right after our shitty fucking housemate ran out on us and we had to cover his rent...

and bills.

My first thought was how much cheese I would sacrifice...seriously.

But, that is what I get for working in a bank. My soul is tainted. Technically I should be fine, and I have been wanting to leave since I started, but alas, bills must be paid and I just can't be bothered finding another job...and a housemate at the same time.

So, my soul is soothed with a French woman and Greenhouse.

She got the broccoli, zucchini and feta quiche.

I attempted to get through this fior di latte, fennel, tomato and capsicum roll. Just what I needed, it was just too much.

And I guzzled three burnt short blacks in my anxious state and decided it would be better to head somewhere with oomph.

God, I can't believe I just said oomph*. Shoot me.
Anyways, I am reading Dave Eggers (latest) collection of short stories while sucking down a very-strong-and-not-that-burnt-but-kind-of-dirty short black. (Say that like Jungle Julia off Death Proof.)

And how do I feel?

Caffinated.

*(Oomph, read: Pushka.)
